LOTHIAN LEAGUES ROUND1 8th MARCH 2025

Swimmers representing the club in the morning session were Alena Crawford-Sophie Paliczka and Stella Xi. The times posted were all excellent as follows:-

Alena 50 BREAST 1.01.83 and 100 IM 1.50.84 Sophie 50 BACK 51.49 Stella 50 BACK 53.29 and 50 FREE 47.87.

Considering this was first competition for Sophie and Stella and second only competition for Alena the times posted were outstanding. It’s always a worry for swimmers at a young age that nerves get the better of them but not in this case as they all swam brilliantly and had a smile on their faces after each swim. The last event was a 4x 50 relay and all split times were great. Alena swam the first and last positions as we only had three so well done. Keep training hard and the sets in training are going to be tough to prepare you all for future swims.

Representing the club in the afternoon were Timothy- Hamish-Lewis. -Willis-Ruby and Kara. The times posted by them are as detailed below :-

TIM 100 BACK 1.18.25-100 BREAST 1.33.89 HAMISH 200FREE 2.53.60 LEWIS 200 FREE -2.55.77 – 100 BACK 1.32.73 WILLIS 200 IM 3.06.65 -100 FLY 1.40.14 RUBY 200 FREE 2.51.34- 100BACK 1.31.60 KARA 200IM 3.36.97 -100BREAST 1.53.82.

TIM produced two lightning fast swims and is really becoming a force to be reckoned with. The amazing time though was his split in the 4 x 50 relay setting a remarkable time of 28 secs. He had a massive smile on his face and no wonder what a swim that was truly impressive.

HAMISH posted a fast time in his 200 free but we need to get his breathing pattern fixed as it is costing him big style and can easily be fixed.I will look at this aspect over the coming weeks. His split on the relay was a creditable 35 secs so well done HAMISH.

LEWIS smashed his 200 free time which came as no real surprise as he is getting fitter all the time and no doubt this boy has talent. He followed this up with a creditable 100back and he is definitely heading in the right direction.

WILLIS had two tough swims the 200 IM a followed by everyone’s favorite the 100 FLY. His strokes were actually very good and all that is required is to up his fitness levels in training. He swam his heart out and is starting to show what we all know he is capable of.

RUBY what can you say her 200 FREE was outstanding and she went out the first100 as planned on 1.17 so posting the final time she did has now taken another club record. She followed this up with a creditable time in her 100 back despite not being a stroke she really liked. Her split in relay was 34.68 secs again breaking the existing club record. These records are not easy to beat some having been set some time ago so congratulations to her for breaking them

KARA always gives 100 percent in her swims however she was a wee bit off her personal bests but not through lack of effort. After a debrief it is clear that her strokes are fine it’s just a bit more fitness required which I will deal with over the next few weeks. Always smiles and has a great attitude in her swimming which will definitely improve there is no doubt whatsoever.

So where exactly are we at in the overall scheme of things? I know there has been vast improvement however in order to prepare for swims which might or might not be on your favorite strokes more attention in training will be on back – Breast and Fly over the coming weeks and months. All in all a great days swimming so congratulations to all who represented the club at this competition.

As there were too many swims to highlight I felt it was only fair to cover each swimmer individually. Natalia produced a great time on her favorite stroke lol 100 BREAST and finished first in the heat and the final . She also finished first in her 200 IM. Her only comment was please don’t make me do breastroke again. As usual Natalia showed how good a swimmer she is and she has a great competitive attitude. Emma had two outstanding swims and she will definitely break the 1.15 barrier on her free. Emma’s least favorite stroke is breaststroke however there are signs of improvement Emma so well done. Emma knows her first 50 of 100 on free is a blast from the blocks so we will cover that in training.Ruby broke the club record on her 100 free posting a brilliant time of 1.16 and followed up with a great 100 back. So pleased for her as she has been gunning for this record for a while. Ruby has enormous talent and it’s starting to show in her times Aimee it’s so pleasing to see Aimee progressing and posting two personal bests. Aimee has been working very hard in training and it’s now starting a journey of continuous personal bests . She is a late developer at the swimming but this gala will give her enormous confidence and if she keeps on at the hard work she will continue to bring her times dow by huge chunks I am sure of that So keep up the hard work and well done. Kara swam some good swims as usual and she never stops trying her very best and is a joy to train as she takes in what is required and I feel sure more personal bests are to come. Hamish swam very well and smashed his 100 free to a brilliant 1.18 it was looking good in training however I did not think he could smash his time by such a solid amount. He always comes out with a smile and it was a big grin after that swim for sure. Ruaridh had three s wins and made the final in all three which was shear class. I think after the last final swim he could not have swam another length and no wonder. The massive improvement is down to how hard he trains and he puts in an emormous amount of effort again starting to smash his personal bests.

If I have missed anyone out please forgive me however there were so many great swims it was difficult to piece this report together . Suffice to say that we are definitely heading in the right direction due to hard work and dedication. The message clearly is keep training hard and you will get your times down which is what it is all about.
